The man who died in a Jersey City car fire last month has been identified as the Guttenberg man awaiting trial on charges that he allowed a 3-year-old in his care to overdose on methadone.
Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office spokeswoman Jennifer Morrill said Wednesday that the driver pulled from the vehicle after a fiery crash at Hutton Street and New York Avenue on Jan. 27 is Roberto Delgado-Gonzalez, 45, of Guttenberg.

A retired Jersey City police officer who helped pave the way for Black officers in the department died in a two-alarm fire Thursday.
Dorothy Bellinger, 84, was found in a second floor bedroom when firefighters responded to the two-story home at 270 Clerk Street at 10:45 a.m. and were met with heavy fire and smoke conditions on the second floor. She was pronounced dead at 11:44 a.m.
A fire captain suffered minor injuries in the blaze, which is the second fatal home fire in the city in the past nine days. On Feb. 10, a fire at 470 Martin Luther King Drive killed an 11-year-old girl and her 8-month-old brother.

On February 11, a Grand Jury in Hudson County handed up an indictment of three codefendants for the July 6, 2020, fatal shooting of 17-year-old Tyeah Garner on Rutgers Avenue in Jersey City.
According to the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office, the indictment charges Heavenley Cherry, 19, of Jersey City, with Murder, a crime of the first-degree; Conspiracy to Commit, a crime of the first-degree; Possession of a Weapon for Unlawful Purposes, a crime of the second-degree; and Unlawful Possession of a Weapon, a crime of the second degree.
