In this unprecedented year, Delaware Online/The News Journal reporters continued bringing readers stories from the front lines of the COVID-19 pandemic, America s reckoning with race, and the presidential campaign and election of Joe Biden.
Across visual, investigative, editorial, and other categories, the work did not go unnoticed.
Delaware Online/The News Journal was recognized both within the Gannett company, as well as regionally with the MDDC Press Association, in a slew of awards across all mediums.
“The work honored represents just a fraction of the great journalism produced by the staff of Delaware Online and The News Journal in 2020,’’ said Mike Feeley, executive editor. “From the coronavirus pandemic, to the Biden campaign and victory celebrated in Wilmington, to the tornado that ripped through the state, the staff worked tirelessly to provide in-depth coverage of issues affecting Delawareans.
“I remember it looking like glitter,” she recalls. “You could see where it was beginning to turn into cancerous cells. I was always reassured that, by what he could see, it hadn’t gone any further, but it is always a scary thought.”

As she talks, Robb mentions she feels lucky – lucky to have found it early enough that the odds are in her favour. But she’s also no longer able to pick up her two-year-old son, or able to take him and his younger sister on trips without someone else’s help.
