Stocks extend losses as full lockdowns feared

Stocks sank deeper on Thursday with energy and cyclical getting most of the beating as the country mulls complete virus lockdown in urban centers, dealers said.
Benchmark KSE-100 Shares Index gave up 0.83 percent or 376.93 points to close at 44,929.61 points at Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX). Volumes slipped to 328.93 million shares from 387.908 million on Wednesday.
A A H Soomro at KASB Securities said stocks extended the fall with selling seen across the board as fears of possible coronavirus-related lockdowns in Pakistanâs biggest cities, as hinted by NCOC (National Command and Operation Centre) chairman Asad Umar, cast doubts on prospects of economic recovery.

During meeting with interior minister, British High Commissioner clarifies decision to place curbs on travelers from Pakistan
British High Commissioner to Pakistan Christian Turner on Wednesday advised Interior Minister Sheikh Rashid Ahmed to request Nawaz Sharif’s extradition from the British government during a meeting in which matters of mutual interest were discussed.
“I asked British High Commissioner Christian Turner to deport Nawaz Sharif, as he is a fugitive of the court,” Rashid told a press conference in Islamabad. Claiming that they had discussed the issue in depth, he said that the envoy had told him both governments wished to discuss the matter but “he did not give a very positive response.”

ISLAMABAD: Interior Minister Sheikh Rashid has said that the Tehreek-e-Labbaik Pakistan (TLP), which was outlawed over recent deadly rioting in the country, has 30 days to challenge the government move.
“The writ of the state is intact and it is not under anyone’s pressure,” the minister told a news conference on Wednesday, a day after the TLP called off its nationwide protest following a deal with the government negotiated by a group of religious scholars and spiritual leaders.

ISLAMABAD: British High Commissioner Christian Turner has said his country will fully support Pakistan on the issue of Financial Action Task Force (FATF) as Islamabad s performance on the implementation of FATF roadmap is marvellous.
He was talking to Interior Minister Shaikh Rashid Ahmed in Islamabad on Wednesday, state-run radio reported. The interior minister said Pakistan has so far implemented 24 out of 27 points of the FATF roadmap. He said Pakistan and the United Kingdom have a long history of bilateral relations and Pakistan gives immense value to them. He expressed concerns on placing Pakistan on the red list due to COVID-19 pandemic. He said this has disturbed the Pakistani diaspora living in the United Kingdom. He said this treatment with Pakistan seems discriminatory when COVID is spreading at a fast pace in its neighbouring countries.

ISLAMABAD: Interior Minister Sheikh Rashid Ahmed has made it clear that the banned Tehreek-i-Labbaik Pakistan (TLP) will have to face terrorism cases as only 668 of its 733 workers who had been detained under Maintenance of Public Order (MPO) have been set free.
Addressing a press conference on Wednesday, the minister explained that 210 FIRs registered against TLP leaders and workers involving terrorism charges would go through the legal process. They included an FIR registered against TLP chief Saad Rizvi under Section 302 of the Pakistan Penal Code and Section 7 of the Anti-Terrorism Act. Rizvi continued to be in the judicial lockup, he added.
