The U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary Flotilla in Sheboygan is gearing up for a year-long campaign of safety, starting on Saturday with the launch of National Safe Boating Week. The main message is that life jackets save lives, but the key to making that work is consistent wearing by recreational boaters. According to the Coast Guard, 86% of all drownings in 2019 were because the victims weren’t wearing their floatation devices. And if that’s because you don’t like the feel of the jackets, the Auxiliary wants you to know that the new life jackets are much more comfortable, lightweight and stylish than the old orange ones you probably remember.

Fort Campbell sending 160 soldiers to Fort Knox for exercise

Hopkinsville, KY, USA / WHOP 1230 AM | News Radio Apr 19, 2021 8:19 PM Fort Campbell’s 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault) will deploy approximately 160 Soldiers to Fort Knox in support of an Emergency Deployment Readiness Exercise to be held there. The members of the 2nd Brigade Combat Team are projected to deploy Tuesday. Division Public Affairs Officer, Lt. Col. Kari McEwen says, “We have a crucial responsibility to be ready when the nation calls on us. This exercise is an opportunity for us to train the same procedures we use to conduct short-notice deployments anywhere in the world.” The Army’s 110th Chemical Battalion and 48th Chemical Brigade, respectively from Fort Lewis, Washington; and Fort Hood, Texas, will also participate.
