BRIAN HELFERT MENOMINEE A former Menominee County Sheriff’s Office sergeant who served as a school resource officer has been accused of sexually assaulting an individual over a six-year span. Brian Helfert, 57, of Menominee, was arraigned Friday in the 95-A District Court on charges of child sexually abusive activity, a felony punishable by up to 20 years in prison; four counts of first-degree criminal sexual conduct, punishable by life or any number of years in prison; three counts of third-degree criminal sexual conduct, a 15-year penalty; two counts of assault with intent to commit sexual penetration, a 10-year felony; and gross indecency between males as a sexually delinquent person, a felony punishable between one day and life in prison.

MENOMINEE, MI    A former Menominee County Sheriff’s deputy who pleaded guilty to sexual misconduct with a teenager faces more charges in another case involving a minor. Brian Helfert, 57, was arraigned Friday on 11 charges, including child sexually abusive activity; four counts of 1st-degree criminal sexual conduct; three counts of 3rd-degree CSC; assault with intent to commit penetration; gross indecency between males; and being a sexually delinquent person. The charges arise from a number of incidents that allegedly happened between April, 2013 and December, 2019. The victim told police he felt compelled to come forward after he heard of Helfert’s plea and sentencing in another case last year.

Brian Helfert, former sergeant with the Menominee County Sheriff’s Office, was arraigned Friday, April 30 on 11 felony counts: four counts of first-degree criminal sexual conduct, which involves penetration and comes with a max penalty of life in prison; three counts of third-degree criminal sexual conduct; assault with intent to commit penetration; child sexually abusive activity; and gross indecency between males, the TV station reports. A sexually delinquent person notice was also filed against him.
