PhilHealth: 92% of P15B in stolen funds already liquidated

(PhilHealth) on Tuesday said 92% of the P15 billion worth of funds  allegedly stolen from the state insurer by some of its officials had been “liquidated.” “Sa totoo lang po, hindi po nawawala, andiyan lang,” PhilHealth president Dante Gierran said at a Palace news conference.  Sa ngayon po 92% na ang liquidated. So [kakaunti] na lang po [ang hindi pa].” A former employee revealed last August that members of the PhilHealth executive committee pocketed some P15 billion in funds through several fraudulent schemes. These schemes included cash advances, the use of the Interim Reimbursement Mechanism (IRM), and the continuous procurement of IT equipment the agency already has, according to PhilHealth’s former anti-fraud legal officer Thorrsson Montes Keith.

House OKs bill giving Duterte power to defer this year s hike in SSS contribution

Social Security System (MANILA BULLETIN FILE PHOTO) The Committee on Government Enterprises and Privatization declared as urgent the passage of House Bill 8317 which contained a congressional authority for Duterte to act swiftly in preventing SSS from collecting additional membership contributions. Authored by Speaker Lord Allan Velasco, HB 8317 gives a chief executive said power only during “times of national emergencies” such as the current COVID 19 pandemic that has caused severe economic impact on Filipinos. The bill also seeks to amend Republic Act 11199, the Social Security Act of 2018, that mandates gradual increase in monthly premium contributions of both employees and employers. Chaired by Paranaque City Rep. Olivarez, the government enterprises committee also conducted initial deliberations on six other bills referring to the hike in SSS contribution.
