Andres Centino appointed new Philippine Army chief
Published May 15, 2021 9:42pm Defense Secretary Delfin Lorenzana on Saturday night confirmed the appointment of Major General Andres Centino as Philippine Army chief, replacing Lieutenant General Jose Faustino. Lorenzana did not give other details on the appointment. Centino was commander of the 4th Infantry Division, which is based in Cagayan de Oro City. Before becoming 4th ID commander in May last year, Centino was the Armed Forces Deputy Chief of Staff for Operations. Meanwhile, Faustino previously headed the Eastern Mindanao Command (Eastmincom) in Davao City. He is due to retire by November of this year.

Vice President Leni Robredo had meaningful words to say when she attended virtually the graduation of the Philippine Military Academy (PMA) “Masaligan” Class of 2021 and awarded the Vice Presidential Saber to CDT 1CL Daryl Brix Colita of Malalag, Davao del Sur.
“We join you in prayer as you embark on your first assignments protecting our country after graduation,” she said in a Facebook post on Monday, May 10.

Although she did not refer to it, Robredo might have been referring to the threat posed by China in the country’s territorial waters and Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ) in the West Philippine Sea (WPS).

Former national police spokesman Lt. Gen. Dionardo Bernardo Carlos was designated as the number four man of the Philippine National Police (PNP) in a major revamp that was triggered by the retirement of Gen. Debold Sinas.
Carlos assumed the position of the Chief Directorial Staff, which is equivalent to the position of Chief Operations Officer in private companies.
A member of the Philippine Military Academy (PMA) Class of 1988, Carlos got the position as he was the first in line in order of seniority in the PNP.
He served as a PNP spokesman in 2017 before he was named as the director of the Aviation Security Group. He also served as the director of the Directorate for Information and Communications Technology (DICTM) and the Directorate for Police Community Relations (DPCR) before he was designated as the director of the Directorate for Integrated Police Operations- Visayas where he earned his third star.
