Biotech Farms gets tax perks for P1 33B hogs expansion – Manila Bulletin

Published April 24, 2021, 7:01 AM Biotech Farms, Inc. is investing P1.33 billion to expand its annual hogs production capacity by 48 percent to help address the huge shortage of meat products in the country caused by the African Swine Flu on local piggery farms.  The Board of Investments has already approved the grant of tax incentives, including income tax holiday, to Biotech, which piggery farm is located in South Cotabato. According to the BOI, Biotech Farms will boost annual production by 48 percent to 169,000 hogs (16,900,000 kg) once the expansion project starts commercial operation in April next year. The expansion includes the construction of a new 2,500 sow-level piggery farm to be located at its existing swine production facility in South Cotabato which has a current capacity of 114,400 hogs (11.44 million kg).

Published April 24, 2021, 6:30 AM Jollibee Group Foundation (JGF) and Southeast Asian Regional Center for Graduate Study and Research in Agriculture (SEARCA) have forged a joint research deal that targets to increase onion production in the Philippines as well as improve the local supply systems. A statement showed that SEARCA and JGF, the corporate social responsibility arm of Jollibee Foods Corp., have recently signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) that will pave the way for a research project specifically to improve the country’s yield for onion, with a specific focus on yellow onion. The MOU was signed by SEARCA Director Glenn Gregorio and JGF Executive Director Ma. Gisela Tiongson.

This was disclosed by DOST Secretary Fortunato “Boy” de la Peña during his weekly report on Friday, April 23. DOST Secretary Fortunato “Boy” T. de la Peña “We have a report on the National Research Council of the Philippines regarding the launching of their gender-responsive COVID-19 Cases Monitor (CCMon).This is actually a dashboard with a graphical user interface that provides at-a-glance views of the number of COVID-19 cases or progress report across the national and local government units, regional, provincial, municipality, barangay,” he said.
