Villar pushes to declare San Jose, Batangas as Egg Basket of the Philippines
RECOGNIZING the huge number of 7 million eggs it generates daily, Senator Cynthia A. Villar seeks to name the town of San Jose in the province of Batangas as the Egg Basket of the Philippines.
Villar, chairperson of the Senate committee on Agriculture and Food, filed Senate Bill No. 2044 or An Act Declaring the Municipality of San Jose in the Province of Batangas as the Egg Basket of the Philippines in order to support her proposal.
In her proposed measure, Villar cited Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) report showing that of the 49.09,000 metric tons of eggs coming from CALABARZON region, 705 metric tons of eggs are from San Jose, Batangas on a daily basis.
The Department of Agriculture (DA) is now pushing to further expand the minimum access volume (MAV) allocation on pork to 404,210 metric tons (MT) from the current 54,000 MT, a proposal that has already been sent to President Rodrigo Duterte for approval.

Each of the five pilot areas, he said, will start with at least 500 cows or female cattle to be purchased from local farmers for an artificial insemination program, which targets to introduce outstanding genetics like Wagyu.
