Lancashire s coronavirus death toll rises by 13
THIRTEEN people have died after testing positive for coronavirus in Lancashire’s hospitals, the latest data has shown. Of those 13 deaths, nine were recorded with Lancashire Teaching Hospitals, which among others operates Chorley General. The trust has now reported a total of 531 deaths. The fatalities were announced after several days of a reprieve in death reports from the trust, unlike around the rest of the county were numbers have been spiking in recent days. The East Lancashire Hospitals trusts – which operates the Royal Blackburn Hospital and Burnley General – has reported double figures in the last two days.

A FURTHER nine people have died in East Lancashire’s hospitals after testing positive for the coronavirus, the latest figures have sown. Of the nine deaths, one took place on December 29, another on December 30, one on December 31, four on January 4 and two yesterday, January 5. It brings the total number of deaths to be recorded in Blackburn and Burnley’s hospitals to 680 after a tragic number of 27 were recorded on Tuesday. A further five people have died within the University Hospitals of Morecambe Bay facilities in recent days, three at Blackpool Teaching Hospitals and one at the Southport and Ormskirk Hospital Trust.

Hospital chief executives and senior NHS workers were among those included in the New Year’s Honours list.
Barts Health Trust chief executive Alwen Williams has been made a dame in acknowledgement of services to the NHS. Ms Williams has had a 40-year career in the NHS. She has taken Barts Health from being in special measures in 2015 to a trust with many services rated ‘good’ or ‘outstanding’.
Barts is one of the largest trusts in the NHS. It is based in east London and has been heavily hit by covid, recording over 900 deaths from the disease to date.
