Fire accident at speciality chemicals manufacturing unit in MSEZ April 24, 2021 A fire broke out at a speciality chemicals manufacturing unit in Mangalore Special Economic Zone (MSEZ). According to reports reaching here, people in the vicinity of MSEZ heard an explosion and saw fire from Catasynth Speciality Chemicals (a subsidiary of the Anthea Group) in MSEZ on Saturday afternoon. Quoting the manager of the manufacturing unit, Mangaluru City Police said there are no casualties due to the fire accident as of now. Since the operations to extinguish the fire are still on, it is difficult to estimate the loss at this juncture, they said. Cause of fire is yet to be ascertained.

The first batch of four head of cattle was sent to the Go Shala in the presence of Vishwa Hindu Parishat leader M.B. Puranik and others on the NMPT premises, said a release here. With the port witnessing business growth, it is also endowed with responsibilities and the safety and sustenance of stray cattle roaming around the premises was one of its concerns. Cattle have been present on the port premises since its inception and there were possibilities of cattle getting injured or killed due to movement of heavy vehicles inside the premises.

NMPT pact with IOCL for bunkering facility April 06, 2021 New Mangalore Port Trust on Tuesday signed an agreement with Indian Oil Corporation Ltd to provide bunkering facilities for vessels. A press release by NMPT said that it had invited tenders from firms experienced in providing the facilities. IOC won the bid for a five-year period offering highest minimum volume of bunker offered by a firm, it said, adding the expected minimum cargo to be handled will be 90,000 tonnes annually. Bunkering is a facility of supplying of fuel for use by ships and includes the shipboard logistics of loading fuel and distributing it among available bunker tanks.
