NEW HANOVER COUNTY Matthew Stallings, 29, is being charged with first degree attempted murder after allegedly stabbing his wife he is separated from more than 15 times and throwing her from a second-story balcony of her apartment.
Stallings broke into his estranged wife’s home around 8 p.m. Wednesday evening at the New Providence Park Apartment Homes off North College Road. The victim was treated for life-threatening injuries but is in stable condition, according to a release from the New Hanover County Sheriff’s Office.
Detectives learned Stallings was in Duplin County after the attempted murder and located and arrested him with assistance from the Duplin County Sheriff’s Office.
A North Carolina man is behind bars after police say he tried to kill his estranged wife.
According to the New Hanover County Sheriff’s Office, Matthew Stallings is accused of breaking into a New Hanover County apartment on Wednesday, where his estranged wife was in bed sleeping. The victim woke up to Stallings assaulting her, WAY 3 reports.
After stabbing the woman more than 15 times, Stallings allegedly threw her from a second-floor apartment balcony. She fell around 14 feet before hitting the ground.
The victim miraculously survived. She was rushed to the New Hanover Regional Medical Center with life-threatening injuries, but she’s now in stable condition.
NEW HANOVER COUNTY The New Hanover County Sheriff’s Department has issued a missing report for 55-year-old white caucasian male, William “Billy” Joseph Lare.
Lare has a medium build, stands 5’6″ and weighs approximately 160 pounds. He has blue eyes, blonde hair and three tattoos: a heart with Lane Rose on his upper left arm, RIP Roe on the upper right arm, along with a tribal tattoo on the upper right arm.
Lare has been missing since May 8, 2020, but was reported on Dec. 22, 2020. He was last seen at 1545 Sandlapper Way.

WILMINGTON, N.C. (WECT) - Jimmie Dearl Meeks was arrested Wednesday and charged with Accessory After The Fact by State Highway Patrol in the hit-and-run that injured a New Hanover County Sheriffâs deputy Friday December 4 around 9 p.m.
Meeks, who is 32 years old, was the passenger in the vehicle that fled the scene New Hanover County Sheriffâs Office Lieutenant Jerry Brewer says.

NEW HANOVER COUNTY, N.C. (WECT) - The New Hanover County Sheriffâs Office says a man missing since May has been found safe.
A missing personâs report was filed December 22 for 55-year-old William Joseph Lare who had not been seen since May 8.
Deputies announced Wednesday that Lare had been located and was safe.
