A man died after being hit by a car late Tuesday night. The Wilmington Police Department Traffic Unit responded to a bicyclist and motor vehicle accident at the 1000 block of South College Road around 10:30 p.m. According to a Wednesday police press release, when officers arrived on scene, they found Charles Bellamy, 57, in critical condition.  Officers attended to Bellamy until EMS arrived and transported him to New Hanover Regional Medical Center where he was pronounced dead shortly after arriving, according to the release.  According to the release, witnesses reported Bellamy rode his bike across South College Road in an area that did not have a marked crosswalk or stoplights. He was also wearing dark clothing, and due to it being nighttime, the driver of the car that hit him was unable to see him riding across the road.
