SSE Renewables and its co–development partner Coillte Renewable Energy have begun construction of their joint 30MW Lenalea wind project in central Donegal.
Delivery of Vestas turbines to Lenalea is expected to commence in spring 2023, with installation of the seven Vestas V117-4.2MW turbines in 4.3MW operating mode scheduled to take place at the site over the course of summer 2023.
Full wind farm commissioning and completion is expected in late 2023.
Delivery of the Lenalea Wind Farm project represents a joint total capital investment of around €40m by 50:50 co-development partners SSE Renewables and Coillte Renewable Energy.
The investment will help support County Donegal’s green recovery through the creation of up to 35 construction jobs at peak project delivery.

Bank of Ireland and the European Investment Bank (EIB) have agreed to finance a €100 million wind farm project by climate solutions company Bord na Móna that will be able to supply up to 55,000 homes with renewable energy.
The new 75 megawatt (MW) windfarm, located at Cloncreen, Co Offaly, will create up to 100 jobs during the construction phase and is due to start supplying renewable energy to the national grid next year. This is the first project under the Renewable Electricity Support Scheme to receive financing and when completed, will be another contribution towards Bord na Móna’s objective to supply approximately one third of Irish homes with renewable energy by 2030.

Danish energy company Obton has confirmed plans to double its investment in the Irish solar energy market in the years ahead.
The company said it expects to expand its portfolio and solar energy projects here to reach a capacity of 1 Gigawatt (GW) by 2026.
That would see total value of its investment here in solar reaching €750m.
Obton formed a joint venture with the Irish energy company Shannon Energy in recent years to build solar farms using Photovoltaic panels, which use the sun s energy to convert daylight into renewable energy.
The partnership was awarded contracts last year for 11 solar projects in the first round of the Government s Renewable Electricity Support Scheme (RESS).
