Centre to buy 70 million Covid-19 vaccine doses for its first vaccination phase

Synopsis The government has already placed an order for 11 million doses from Serum Institute. In addition, 550,000 doses have been ordered from Bharat Biotech. The order to Pune-based Serum Institute is priced at ₹220 for one dose of the injection and that to Hyderabad-based Bharat Biotech is at ₹309, inclusive of taxes. New Delhi: The government has approved the purchase of close to 70 million Covid-19 vaccines in the first phase of the inoculation programme. The bulk around 60 million jabs will be ordered from Serum Institute of India, while up to 10 million shots will be sourced from Bharat Biotech.
