This vaccine-maker has cited limited availability of vaccine in wake of huge demand and dispatches being made according to directives of concerned government officials (Central government) as reasons for its inability to make the additional supplies, Sisodia said at a press conference while reading out the Bharat Biotech letter. Delhi had given an order for 67 lakh doses of Covaxin after the Centre liberalised the process to allow States to directly procure 50 per cent of its requirement from vaccine manufacturers. Serum Institute, Bharat Biotech To Ramp Up Production Of COVID-19 Vaccine By August

Oxford-AstraZeneca s Covishield is being manufactured by the Pune-based Serum Institute of India. New Delhi: Amid multiple states reporting a shortage of COVID-19 vaccine, Serum Institute and Bharat Biotech have submitted to the Centre their production plan for the next four months, informing they can ramp it up to 10 crore and 7.8 crore doses respectively by August, official sources said on Wednesday. The sources said the Union Health Ministry and the office of Drugs Controller General of India had sought from both the firms their production plan for June, July, August and September. The Hyderabad-based Bharat Biotech s indigenously developed Covaxin and Oxford-AstraZeneca s Covishield, being manufactured by the Pune-based Serum Institute of India, are currently being used in India s inoculation drive against coronavirus.

Kejriwal wants Centre to enable more firms to produce Covid-19 vaccine

Addressing a digital press conference, AAP supremo and Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal said that the know-how on the manufacture of Covid vaccines currently available only with Serum Institute of India and Bharat Biotech could be shared with other firms and appropriate royalty be paid to the current two firms. Currently, there are only two vaccine makers in India – Pune-based Serum Institute of India, which manufactures Covishield and Bharat Biotech, which manufactures Covaxin.
