ST. LUCIE COUNTY A 52-year-old woman died after a Sunday afternoon traffic crash on U.S. 1 south of East Midway Road, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
The 2:04 p.m. crash happened at Tropical Isles Way and U.S. 1 as the 52-year-old Fort Pierce woman drove a sedan south on U.S. 1, the FHP stated.
“A van coming out of Tropical Isles Way turned left in the path of the sedan causing the sedan to strike a concrete pole on the west side of U.S. 1,” the FHP stated. “A parked vehicle in a nearby car lot was struck by a steel railing from the crash as well.”

On Thursday morning, a 54-year-old man was swimming in the ocean near Disney s Vero Beach Resort and was bit by a shark.
According to the Indian River County Sheriff s Office, the man was alert and stable when they arrived on the scene. The victim was taken to Lawnwood Regional Medical Center for treatment.
At this time, the type of shark, its size, and other details aren t known.

ST. LUCIE COUNTY What was reported earlier this month as a suicide attempt was determined by St. Lucie County sheriff’s investigators to be an attempted murder.
The case, which involved interviews and firearms analysis, resulted in the Tuesday arrest of Scott Joseph Ranne, 38, of the 3200 block of South U.S. 1 in Fort Pierce, on a charge of attempted first-degree murder, according to records released Thursday.
He was held Thursday in the St. Lucie County Jail on $500,000 bond, according to the Sheriff’s Office.
Sheriff’s investigators about 10:22 p.m. April 12 went to an undisclosed address where a woman “reportedly attempted suicide by shooting herself in the head,” records state.

VERO BEACH, Fla. â A 54-year-old man was bitten by a shark Thursday morning while swimming in the Atlantic Ocean near a Disney resort.
According to the Indian River County Sheriff s Office, the man was bitten in the leg while he was swimming in the ocean near Disney s Vero Beach Resort.
The man was taken to Lawnwood Regional Medical Center for treatment. The extent of his injury was not immediately known, but deputies said he was alert and stable.
