Thereâs always been a lot of bad advice out there about getting ready for hurricane season. Here are seven myths emergency officials wish Floridians would just get over already.

That advice echoes across Florida every storm season. And every year, itâs wrong.
âThat does not help nothing,â said Pasco County Emergency Management Director Andrew Fossa. âThe only thing that is going to do is hold bigger pieces of glass together as it flies through the air.â
Understanding the numbers
Reported COVID-19 cases in Florida surged at the beginning of 2021, with most of January reporting more than 10,000 cases a day. And, the state didn t see percent positivity below 5 percent the entire month, with many daily reports in the double digits.
Since Feb. 4, however, daily reported COVID-19 cases in Florida have remained under 10,000.
The
highest single-day case number Florida has reported so far is 19,816 for Jan. 6. The report released on Jan. 2 of 31,518 newly-reported cases is higher, but that report combined updates for Dec. 31 and Jan. 1.

On Oct. 30, Florida became the third state to cross the 800,000 reported COVID-19 cases mark. Then, on Dec. 1, Florida became the third state to surpass 1 million confirmed cases. On March 20,
Testing services will continue to be offered locally at nearly 200 locations, including county health departments. The Florida Division of Emergency Management offers a list of COVID-19 testing sites at www.floridadisaster.org/covid19/testing-sites.
Saturday s announcement comes as the state verges on 10 million Floridians vaccinated statewide. State officials have started the transition of the COVID testing to locally-led efforts, they said.
The parking area at Bragg s testing site had been significantly reduced in recent weeks, reflecting the decrease in demand. Statistics for testing at Bragg were not immediately available.
FAMU will be distributing its own news release soon that explains how the site will operate after this weekend, the Health Department said.
