Kentucky reports lowest COVID-19 case count in weeks as state breaks single-month death record

Kentucky breaks single-month record for coronavirus deaths Mary Ramsey, Louisville Courier Journal With almost a week left in January, Kentucky set a record for the most coronavirus-related deaths in a month. With the fatalities reported Sunday and Monday, the state has reported 798 deaths this month, more than the then-record 754 deaths reported in December.  The state reported 39 coronavirus-related deaths and 1,268 new COVID-19 cases Monday as Kentucky s positivity rate fell below 10% for the first time in 2021, Gov. Andy Beshear announced. Kentucky sets Maternal Health Awareness Day in effort to reduce pregnancy-related deaths

Jan. 23 has been set aside to educate the community and reduce maternal mortality statewide. The alarming rate of maternal mortality and the racial gap in pregnancy loss and pregnancy-related deaths are nationwide public health concerns.

Dr. Moyer cautioned that despite the decrease in cases that residents must remain vigilant with mask-wearing, washing hands and staying socially distant as the virus is still present with Louisville’s current incidence rate being double the 25 cases per 100,000 keeping the city at a critical level.
