Kolkata: A slugfest started between BJP and TMC after Prime Minister Narendra Modi transferred rupees two thousand to seven lakh farmers under PM Kisan Samman Nidhi Yojana.
West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee in an open letter stated that soon after taking the oath as the Chief Minister of West Bengal on May 5, she had written a letter to the BJP-led Central government so that it releases all the subsidies for the farmers.
âThe BJP government was supposed to release 18000 rupees to all the farmers. We will continue the fight till you all get the entire amount. In 2018, the TMC government started the Krishak Bandhu scheme that has become the model in the entire country,â read the open letter by Mamata Banerjee to the farmers.

A meeting of the GST Council ought to be called immediately to discuss a raft of issues, including the grim possibility that the shortfall in compensation to the states could widen just when they need the revenues most to tackle the Covid-19 crisis, Bengal finance minister Amit Mitra has said.
The GST Council, the apex decision making body for GST, last met on October 5 last year.
The Council is obligated to meet at least once in a quarter. But this time the gap between the meetings has stretched to over seven months and there is still no indication from the Centre when it intends to convene the next one.

Kolkata: West Bengal Governor Jagdeep Dhankhar will be visiting Ranpagli and Srirampur camps in Assam on Friday and take stock of the well-being of the over 400 people who had crossed over from West Bengal to Assam and have taken shelter in the camps. The people fled from West Bengal to escape post-poll violence that had erupted in the state.
It is to be noted that a day before his planned visit to the post poll violence-affected Cooch Behar district, Governor Dhankar received a letter from Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee where she said claimed that the scheduled visit violates long-standing protocols.
Amid a shortage of Covid vaccines, some states of India have floated global tenders to procure vaccines. However, these state governments are uncertain about the arrival of the vaccine doses.
