Karnataka to tie up with IISc to develop low-cost oxygen concentrators

Rangarajan briefed the minister about research activities centered on Covid-19 IISc teams were engaged with, which included designing a more efficient oxygen concentrator and also vaccine for Covid-19 which can be stored at room temperature upto 30°.

Health and Medical Minister K Sudhakar on Thursday interacted with Govindan Rangarajan, the director of Indian Institute of Science (IISc) to seek the premier science institute s support in battling Covid-19 pandemic.
MYSURU: At a time when doctors are burdened with the stress of catering to large number of Covid and non-Covid patients, former students of Bangalore Medical College and Research Institute (BMCRI) working in top notch hospitals across the world have come forward to fight the second wave of Covid-19.
The doctors from BMCRI’s 1992 batch have joined hands with Karnataka Covid Volunteers Team (KCVT) to work as online consultants.
More than 500 volunteers have come together to provide cloud-based tele-counselling support to Covid-19 patients across the nation and several parts of the world. Besides this, they will also help patients find beds, suggest treatment and aid in the final rites of Covid victims.

Scientists at the Indian Institute of Science (IISc) are developing a new Covid-19 vaccine that is expected to be more effective with a better neutralising effect than the existing vaccines.
The institute’s vaccine is also to have capabilities of storing at room temperature up to 30 degrees, said Prof. Govindan Rangarajan, Director IISc.
Interacting with Karnataka Health and Medical Minister Dr K Sudhakar, after the State government sought the institute’s support in handling Covid-19 pandemic, the director further apprised the minister that IISc is also working on designing a more efficient oxygen concentrator.
