The much-awaited Metro work on the
Outer Ring Road (
ORR) is set to begin within a couple of months. Two companies have already started preliminary construction work on some places along the stretch. The rest of the work is expected to occupy the main carriageway, leaving only one lane on either side of the road for mixed traffic. Officials, including the traffic police, are considering removing the bus lane in some places on the road to manage the traffic.
It’s learned that the main carriageway of the ORR is 18 metres wide (nine metres in both direction. The Metro project, particularly the initial piling work, needs to use about 4.5 metres on both sides (a total of 9 metres). Currently, the bus lane occupies 2.8 metres on both sides (a total of 5.6 metres on both sides). This leaves only 1.7 metres of space on each side of the main carriageway, which is not e
