A 16-year-old died at a residence in the 700 block of North Grand Avenue in Sedalia on August 4, and three persons are facing felonies in connection with the aftermath.
According to a police report, a Sedalia Police officer responded to Bothwell Regional Health Center in reference to a deceased juvenile who was brought to the emergency room. The officer made contact with Pettis County Coroner Robert “Skip” Smith, who was already on the scene. Smith said the deceased individual- Jacob Howe- was dropped off by three individuals who then left the hospital. It was determined Howe had been deceased for approximately six to 12 hours prior to his arrival at the Emergency Room.
A 29-year-old Green Ridge man facing multiple felony charges following the execution of several search warrants last year has a court proceeding set for later this month.
According to a report from the Sedalia Police Department, on April 16, officers conducted a traffic stop of a suspect related to an ongoing drug investigation, and Samuel David Woolery II was immediately taken into custody and transported to the Pettis County Jail.
Investigators with the Sedalia Police Department’s Drug Enforcement Unit, patrol officers and Pettis County Sheriff’s deputies served five search warrants at residences in Sedalia and Green Ridge, two storage units in Sedalia and the suspect’s vehicle nearly simultaneously.
A Sedalia man accused of inappropriate contact with a minor, three years ago, has been sentenced to spend time in jail.
On the August 14th, 2017, a teenager gave explicit details to a Child Safe investigator of a sexual assault that she had allegedly suffered at the hands of Jesus Alberto Vanegas-Esquivel.
Vanegas-Esquivel reportedly admitted to the allegations when he was located and arrested in Morgan County on February 20, 2020.
Vanegas-Esquivel, who is now 28-years-old, was charged with a Class D Felony for Statutory Rape in the Second Degree and a Class E Felony for Child Molestation in the Fourth Degree- Child Less Than 17 Years of Age and Offender Greater Than Four Years Older.
The court is scheduled to set another date for jury trial in the case of a Kansas City, Kansas man who is facing felony charges including murder and kidnapping.
On February 22, Sedalia Police officers responded to the 700 block of East 17th Street where they found Robert G. Fox lying in the street, dead from an apparent gunshot wound to the chest.
After an investigation, detectives were able to establish a motive and identify a suspect vehicle that later led authorities to a subject who lived in the Kansas City, Kansas, area. Authorities tracked the suspect vehicle to Sedalia prior to the homicide and back to the KCK area, and 27-year-old Daniel Fernandez was charged.
