Death Of Pettis County Inmate Listed as COVID-19 On Jan. 21, The Pettis County Sheriff s Office, via Sheriff Brad Anders, released a statement concerning the death of a Pettis County inmate that occurred on Aug. 20. “On Aug. 20 at around 3 a.m., inmate Calvin H. Young contacted jail staff with a complaint of difficulty breathing. Corrections officers responded immediately and moved Young to medical, at which time PCAD was summoned to the scene. Shortly after the arrival of PCAD, Young was walked to an awaiting stretcher and was taken to the ambulance, where he succumed to his (at the time) unknown illness.

This is a compilation of reports released by the Pettis County Sheriff s Office: On Tuesday, Pettis County Deputies conducted a vehicle stop in the 4800 block of South Limit on a vehicle that failed to signal. During the stop, a passenger consented to a search of her property. Marijuana, methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia were located. The passenger, Brittany Hall of Sedalia, was arrested, as well as the driver, Zachary Denny, also of Sedalia. He was charged with driving while revoked (second offense). Both were taken to the Pettis County Jail, pending charges by the Pettis County Prosecutor s Office.   On Tuesday just before 3 p.m., Pettis County Deputies took a report from Sherry Painter-Torres, 22321 Hitaffer Road, in reference to a red 1999 Dodge Dakota. Investigation showed that the steering column was damaged. In addition, the rear of the drive shaft was removed from the truck. Suspects then apparently pushed the truck back into the driveway.

Wednesday night, Officers were on patrol in the area of East 10th Street and South Emmett Avenue when they recognized a driver of a yellow Chevrolet passenger car to have a suspended license. Officers stopped the vehicle, made contact with the driver and checked through Dispatch to confirm his suspended status. Steven Wayne Bailey, 38, of Sedalia, was arrested and transported to the Sedalia Police Department, where he was fingerprinted, photographed, and released with a court date.   Sedalia Police were dispatched to the 1700 block of East 4th Street for a report of property damage Wednesday morning. When Officers arrived, they spoke with Chad A. Edwards, who stated that sometime that morning, someone flattened ten tires from his and three other vehicles at the residence. Two Smithton Residents Arrested in Burglary Case

Two Smithton Residents Arrested in Burglary Case On Monday, Pettis County Deputies responded to Florence Road and East Smithton Road for a burglary report. The caller was able to give deputies a detailed description of the suspect vehicle and partial license plate info. During investigation, deputies were able to identify the suspect vehicle from previous contact. They later located it in the 400 block of South Grand. In addition, deputies located several items inside the vehicle that was reported stolen to the Pettis County Sheriff s Office. Deputies arrested two people inside the vehicle, including John Wayne Sant, Sr., of Smithton, and Crystal G. Vansel of Smithton.
