Lewes officials will not issue permits for events planned before April 15, with a few exceptions.
Mayor and city council unanimously voted to set a date in order to provide city hall staff with guidance on how to handle applications for spring and summer events.
Tecumseh resident earns Eagle Scout rank

Tecumseh resident and 22-year-old Jillian Thiemann from Boy Scout Troop 6424 in Bethel Acres earned the rank of Eagle Scout Jan. 29.
According to Jillian, she became an Eagle Scout for her project, which was an extension to an irrigation system at Bethel United Methodist Church.
Jillian is the second female from Canadian Valley District to achieve the rank of Eagle Scout and said she added the extension to a system that her brother, Robert, originally installed a few years before. It felt really good to become an Eagle Scout, Jillian said.
Her father David helped her with the project.

These were the days when city butchers knew the products the customers wanted. That is what Don Waltman, a retired butcher and owner of Waltman Meats, 338 Court St., said about his shop and its predecessor, Smithgall & Ging Meat Packers. Waltman, 77, decided to retire a month ago, after operating the store at 338 Court St. for 49 years and a stand at Lewisburg farmers market for 52 years.

The Milford City Council, for the first time since its incorporation in 1807, will start its day Monday, Feb. 8, with Hindu prayers containing verses from the world’s oldest extant scriptures. Hindu statesman Rajan Zed will deliver the invocation from ancient Sanskrit scriptures remotely before the council meeting. He will then read the English interpretation of the prayers, saying, “Lead us from the unreal to the real; lead us from darkness to light, and lead us from death to immortality.” He will urge council memb
