After a two-month hiatus caused by the winter surge of new coronavirus cases, jury trials in Westmoreland County will resume in February.
President Judge Rita Hathaway said, with new cases of the virus on the decline, it appears safe to reconvene trials, which were suspended in December and January.
“When we had the spike, we decided it would be prudent to stop. Now, we feel we are able to resume because everything is backed up and we need to get moving,” Hathaway said.

Eight local school districts are among those awarded more than $875,000 in grant money to help upgrade food service equipment in their cafeterias.
In all, 59 elementary, middle and high schools will benefit from the funds, awarded to schools participating in the National School Lunch Program, a federally assisted meal program that provides low-cost or free lunches to qualifying students, officials with the state Department of Education announced this week.

Almost a week after Penn-Trafford closed its stadium to the public, the facility has reopened.
According to a release from the district, Warrior Stadium reopened Wednesday after being shuttered due to recent incidents in which visitors took snow shovels to the field, which can potentially damage the turf by ripping the seams or the turf itself.
District officials, who had to wait for clear weather to inspect the field, said no extensive damage was done to the turf in the incidents. Any minor issues that may arise can be fixed through routine maintenance.
School officials made the decision to close the field, which is typically kept open for public use when school activities are not scheduled, on Friday after someone attempted to shovel snow off the turf three times last month. Athletic Director Kerry Hetrick said it was not clear who attempted to shovel snow off the field or why they were doing it.
