The number of counties with high transmission of COVID-19 is dropping and fewer people are testing positive for the virus, Gov. Tom Wolf’s office said Tuesday.
Across Pennsylvania, 40 of the state’s 67 counties are seeing substantial transmission of the coronavirus, according to the Wolf administration. That’s a drop of four counties from last week, when 44 counties were seeing high spread of COVID-19.
The percentage of positive COVID-19 tests dropped to 6.6% for the week of April 30 through May 6, down from 7.6% the previous week, according to the Pennsylvania Health Department.

Fewer counties are showing high transmission of COVID-19 and the percentage of positive tests is dropping, Gov. Tom Wolf’s administration said Thursday.
Across Pennsylvania, 44 of the state’s 67 counties are seeing substantial transmission of the coronavirus, according to the Wolf administration. That’s a drop of nine counties from the previous week, when 53 counties had substantial transmission of COVID-19.
The percentage of positive COVID-19 tests dropped to 7.6% for the week of April 23-29, down a full percentage point from the previous week. The positive test rate was 9.6% two weeks ago. The rate had been rising steadily since late March, although it remained well below the peak of 16% in December.
Pennsylvania Governor Tom Wolf announced on May 4, 2021, that (almost) all the COVID-19 mitigation orders will be lifted beginning 12:01 a.m. on Memorial Day. However, one of the COVID restrictions in Pennsylvania will remain in place: wearing a mask while in public.
