Institutional messaging, including this billboard outside Pennsylvania College of Technologyâs Madigan Library, reminds the campus community of COVID-19 precautions that have allowed the college to remain open for in-person instruction.
WILLIAMSPORT For roughly a year, the Pennsylvania College of Technology community like communities across the globe has traversed the unchartered minefield created by a devastating virus run amok.
It began with the Spring 2020 shutdown, when naivete was normal and case numbers were comparably low; when remote learning was thought to be a mere speed bump in the road to knowledge. As it quickly became clear that COVID-19 challenges would continue far into the foreseeable future, Penn College did what it has always done in its 100-year-plus history: adapt.

JERSEY SHORE For the second time in as many months, the Jersey Shore Area School Board has nixed a motion that would have added a health careers curriculum to the district’s Career and Technical Education (CTE) program.
Citing budgetary concerns, five board members this week advocated taking a wait-and-see approach to adding the career pathway. Their decision was made in spite of calls from residents, letters and an unofficial student survey supporting the addition of the curriculum.
“Basically what I asked students was where their interests were as far as a health careers program at the high school,” said Robert Parker, student representative on the board.

Utilizing the unique benefits of virtual technology, the Hancock Town Library reached beyond its borders for March’s art exhibit, which features Sarah Patterson of Pennsylvania. Her exhibit, titled “Second Nature,” explores the place of handwriting as a method of communication, both in graphic design and in our personal narratives. And what handwriting signifies in our digital landscape.
The artwork weaves together drawing and handwriting, incorporating the practice of journaling. The idea for the work began to form after the death of her mother. Patterson read through years of letters from her, observing in a new light how those letters told a story of their relationship. She embarked on a journey to examine how handwriting connects us to the touch world.
