Scholarship honors former LDG leader, promotes diversity | News, Sports, Jobs

Feb 11, 2021 Inspired by the mission of the 50K Coalition, a new scholarship established at Pennsylvania College of Technology by Larson Design Group (LDG) supports diversity and honors the longtime service of the firm’s former president and CEO. The 50K Coalition focuses on a bold national goal of producing 50,000 diverse engineering graduates annually by 2025. The Keith S. Kuzio Larson Design Group Scholarship at Penn College will be awarded to a full-time, diverse candidate studying in the architecture and engineering fields at the college. The yearly scholarship includes a summer internship. Kuzio served for a combined total of 20 years as LDG’s president and CEO, transforming the firm into an award-winning, 100 percent employee-owned enterprise with a national reach. He retired in April 2020 and now serves the organization on its board of directors and as a leadership advisor.

The Center for Rural Pennsylvania Hearing brought together officials from government, industry, education, and health care. Frank Pelligrino, chair, Williamsport Municipal Airport Authority, said air service is simply a must for rural communities. He noted the investments made to upgrade the airport in Montoursville over the years, including a new terminal building. Pelligrino was among a number of people noting the loss of flight service to and from Charlotte, North Carolina, in the fall after it was launched in August.

Feb 4, 2021 The Center for Rural Pennsylvania, chaired by state Sen. Gene Yaw, R-Loyalsock Township, will hold a virtual public hearing at 10 a.m. today to examine rural aviation and the decision by American Airlines to drop flights from many smaller U.S. cities, including Williamsport. “Rural areas are at a disadvantage because transportation options are often limited,” Yaw said, according to a news release. “This has profound implications for rural communities, particularly now during the pandemic. Maintaining passenger flights to and from our rural airports is vital to economic recovery.” The hearing will focus on demand for reliable air service, rural transportation and logistical impacts, impacts to area businesses and access to health care.

During a tour of the facility last week, Truck-Lite officials reported that the business is trying to find a multitude of applicants to fill at least 85 positions to meet the demands of the injection molding, distribution and harness departments at the McElhattan plant.

The Uptown Music Collective will bring this year’s People’s Choice performance, The Long Run: Music of the Eagles, to the stage of the Community Arts Center at 7:30 p.m., Feb. 12 and 13. According to a news release, this socially distant performance will have limited in-person tickets available for both nights, as well as tickets for a multi-camera, “up close and personal” live stream of the Saturday night performance, all of which are now on sale at the Community Arts Center box office.
