PennDOT lifts vehicle restrictions on I-78, Turnpike Northeast Extension Updated Feb 14, 2021; Pennsylvania Department of Transportation officials have lifted vehicle restrictions and restored normal speed limits on the state’s major roadways. PennDOT prohibited during the timeframe tractors towing unloaded or lightly loaded enclosed trailers, open trailers or tank trailers; tractors towing unloaded or lightly loaded tandem trailers; enclosed cargo delivery trucks; passenger vehicles (cars, SUV’s, pickup trucks, etc.) towing trailers; and recreational vehicles/motorhomes. Also prohibited were school buses, commercial buses and motor coaches not carrying chains or Alternate Traction Devices (ATD’s) and motorcycles.
