Go for the gold? The U.S. government went for it.
FBI agents were looking for an extremely valuable cache of fabled Civil War-era gold possibly tons of it when they excavated a remote woodland site in Pennsylvania three years ago this month, according to government emails and other recently released documents in the case.
On March 13, 2018, treasure hunters led the FBI to Dent s Run, in Benezette Township, Elk County, where legend has it an 1863 shipment of Union gold was either lost or stolen on its way to the U.S. Mint in Philadelphia.
The FBI has long refused to confirm why exactly it went digging, saying only in written statements over the years that agents were there for a court-authorized excavation of what evidence suggested may have been a cultural heritage site.

With daytime temperatures climbing but nighttime temperatures still dropping below freezing, the sap is flowing in maple trees across Pennsylvania. The maple sugaring season has arrived, and with it, the maple sugar tourism season.
Many of the Pennsylvania maple sugaring events that skipped 2020 because of the coronavirus pandemic are returning this year, some with special safety precautions in response to the still-raging pandemic.
On the tours of maple farms and sugar shacks, some sites will provide curb-side ordering and pick up for their wide-ranging products â maple-based and other. Some will offer drive-through tours of their operations.
Despite whatever other changes have been made, the maple farmers again will be offering a startling range of maple-based and maple-related products. Those will include sap dogs, bourbon maple syrup, maple milkshakes, bucket brownies, maple cotton candy, maple mustard, maple barbecue sloppy Joes, maple raspberry syrup and much more.
