A resurfacing project along a busy stretch of Route 222 in Ephrata and West Earl townships is scheduled to begin early next month. The $6.3 million project will stretch from the Pool Road overpass in West Earl Township, where an average of 57,000 vehicles use that section of the highway each day, to the Mohler Church Road overpass in Ephrata Township, where the average number of vehicles per day there is 38,500, according to a PennDOT spokesman. Work will include milling, paving, base repairs, concrete patching, guide rail upgrades, drainage, signs and pavement markings.

East Lampeter Twp officials seek public input for unique name for Lincoln Highway East tourist corridor

But sometimes it seems like no two residents call that place by the same name. Is it Lincoln Highway East? Or just Lincoln Highway? How about Route 30 East? Or just Route 30? Or the corridor? Or the strip? By any name, the stretch of road and businesses between Route 896 and Strasburg Pike – home to Dutch Wonderland, American Music Theatre, Tanger and Rockvale outlets, hotels and restaurants – is the core of the county’s tourist industry plus a commercial hub for local residents too. The 2.5-mile corridor is so important that township officials are leading a multi-year, multi-million-dollar project to make it safer, calmer and more inviting to travel by adding walking trails and bicycle paths, narrowing vehicle-travel lanes, coordinating traffic signals based on traffic and taking other steps.
