Police declare ‘suspicious packages’ left in North Jersey town safe after investigating
Updated Dec 30, 2020;
Police on Wednesday investigated multiple suspicious packages that had been left near a Bergen County community center and local offices, before deeming them household items.
At 11:40 a.m., Fort Lee police responded to the area of Anderson and Forest Avenues to investigate a “suspicious device” left on a news stand, said Fort Lee Police Capt. Ricky Mirkovic. Other items, initially called “suspicious devices” were found nearby, in the area of Anderson Avenue and 16th Street, he said.
Police evacuated local residents and businesses as a precaution before calling the Bergen County Sheriff’s Department and Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office, Mirkovic said. Together, the law enforcement agencies determined the devices were merely household items that had been thrown out, he said.
