MAHWAH, NJ A Connecticut man is facing multiple charges, including aggravated assault, after authorities said he and a driver led a New Jersey State trooper on a multi-county chase Sunday and then pointed a gun at the trooper.
Tyree Newell, 20, of Bridgeport was charged with aggravated assault, possession of hollow-point ammunition, possession of a high-capacity magazine and four counts each of unlawful possession of a weapon, the Office of Attorney General announced on Monday.
The driver of the car, Theron Brown, 22, of Bridgeport, also been charged with possessing weapons and ammunition. Brown and Newell were being held at Hudson County jail as of Monday.

Father, son stole man’s identity, used it to obtain $400K mortgage, prosecutor says

A father and son from Hackensack were arrested this week and accused of using a man’s personal information to obtain a $400,000 mortgage for a Maywood home, authorities said.
Leonard Gueye, 58, and his son, Eustace Gueye, 28, were charged with theft by deception, money laundering, wrongful impersonation, forgery and defrauding secured creditors, the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office announced Friday.
The investigation began on Feb. 5 when the office received word from the Maywood Police Department about a potential mortgage loan fraud, officials said.
Detectives discovered that Leonard allegedly obtained the personal information of the victim from a previous real estate transaction in 2009 and that he used it to obtain a loan from Michigan Mutual to purchase the Maywood home under the victim’s name, according to an affidavit of probable cause.

The home of Bergen County Sheriff Anthony Cureton was vandalized Tuesday night after someone spray painted the words “Free them all” in black paint on his garage door, authorities said.
Detectives from the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office were investigating the incident after they were notified about it Wednesday morning, according to a statement from the office.
The vandalism happened sometime after 9 p.m. Tuesday at Cureton’s Englewood home, the office said.
The perpetrator or perpetrators also splattered red paint across the garage door, officials said.
