UPDATE: Woman, 66, Four Cats Killed In Ridgewood Fire

Read / Add Comments A semi-retired Ridgewood woman and her four cats were killed in an overnight fire Monday, responders said. Responders found the body of 66-year-old Sharon Maes in the first-floor living room of her two-story North Pleasant Avenue home after fire broke out shortly before 1 a.m., Bergen County Prosecutor Mark Musella said. She d apparently left something unattended in the oven and was overcome by smoke as she tried to flee, responders told Daily Voice. Maes was pronounced dead at the scene, Musella said, adding that the cause wasn t considered suspicious. Musella s detectives were working with village police and the Bergen County Sheriff s Bureau of Criminal Identification, which collected evidence, to officially determine the cause.

Read / Add Comments UPDATE: A Leonia High School physical education teacher was arrested after authorities learned of an inappropriate sexual relationship with a student, Bergen County Prosecutor Mark Musella said Friday.  Samantha Krakower, who turned 24 on Wednesday, was charged with second-degree sexual assault by someone with “supervisory or disciplinary power” over a victim 16 to 17 years old, he said. Krakower, a former high school and college softball standout who lives in Palisades Park, also was charged with criminal sexual contact and child endangerment. She remained held in the county lockup Friday pending a first appearance in Central Judicial Processing Court in Hackensack.

Dustin Alan Taylor, 38, was arrested during a raid at his Stewart Street home as part of a several-month investigation into online child pornography, Bergen County Prosecutor Mark Musella said Monday. Detectives from Musella’s Cyber Crimes Unit seized devices containing a trove of images “depicting nude and/or sexually explicit prepubescent and pubescent children” during Friday’s raid, the prosecutor said. They charged Taylor with child porn possession and sent him to the Bergen County Jail – only to have a judge in Hackensack order him released under New Jersey’s bail reform law less than 24 hours later, records show.
