BERKELEY COUNTY, S.C. (WCSC) - Lawyers for a Lowcountry mother say the Berkeley County School District is now allowing their clientâs kids to attend in-person classes after she had filed a lawsuit against the district who originally were not giving her kids that option.
Lawyers for Brigette Herbst said hours after they had filed the lawsuit the district contacted Herbst and said her children would be allowed to attend school in-person starting immediately at College Park Middle School.

BERKELEY COUNTY, S.C. (WCSC) - Highway Patrol responded to an accident involving a Berkeley County school bus in Moncks Corner Friday evening.
It happened on US 52 and Old highway 52. Motorists reported that there was at least one other vehicle involved in the incident.
Officials with the Berkeley County School District said their preliminary information shows that a bus was stopped at the railroad tracks when a car hit them.

MONCKS CORNER, S.C. (AP) Three finalists are in the running to replace Berkeley County Schools Superintendent Dr. Eddie Ingram, who announced his retirement in January.
The three finalists include Dr. Anthony S. Dixon, who s served as the chief administrative officer - school services (Secondary Schools) for the district since July 1; Deon D. Jackson, who currently serves as the chief administrative officer for pupil services in the district; and Dr. Glenda Gibson Levine, who serves as the chief diversity officer for the district, WCBD-TV reported.
The board of trustees voted on the three finalists during a special meeting Tuesday following a review of all applicants, and interviews with semi-finalists. CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCSC) - A year of social distancing, quarantining, and computer classrooms has left a major impact on education. While experts feared learning loss, preliminary data is now in to back up those fears.
The Berkeley County School District just completed its Reading and Math Inventory tests. A multiple-choice assessment administered multiple times a year to high school freshmen and sophomores.
“It’s a diagnostic tool,” said Dr. Mathis Burnette who is the academy coach at Stratford High School. “The goal is to improve instruction with data. You get a quantile score and a lexile score. Ultimately what you want to get to is where is this student now and versus where do we take them.”

MONCKS CORNER, S.C. (WCSC) - The Berkeley County School District is one step closer to naming a new superintendent.
The school’s board of trustees voted Tuesday to narrow its search to three candidates. All three are internal candidates, according to district.
