A 30-year-old man was the alleged controlling mind behind a plot to raid a security van in west Belfast, a court heard.
Police claimed Jason McMillan directed the foiled cash-in-transit heist which could have resulted in members of the public being seriously injured.
Details were disclosed as the accused was refused temporary release from custody.
McMillan, of Duncairn Parade in the city, was among three men arrested during a PSNI surveillance operation on March 6.
Two co-accused were detained after officers intervened at shops in the Northumberland Road area.
They were in a car from which a loaded gun was recovered, according to the prosecution.

Two Belfast men are facing a huge number of charges in connection with an investigation into a suspected multi-million pound banking fraud, a court has been told.
John Cartmill (41) and Paul Diamond (59) are accused of conspiring as part of an alleged scam which involved targeting financial institutions across the UK and in the Republic.
Police have claimed the estimated losses were in the region of £3 million.
Cartmill, of Coolnasilla Park West, faces a total of 46 charges, including 39 counts of fraud by false representation.
