LONDON: UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson has reduced the length of his visit to New Delhi at the end of this month due to the COVID-19 situation in India, Downing Street said on Wednesday.
Johnson was to spend a few days in India starting April 26 as part of a planned itinerary, which is expected to include finalising a UK-India Enhanced Trade Partnership.
India, France to push joint initiatives on climate change
New Delhi, Apr 14 (UNI) India and France on Wednesday agreed to further joint initiatives on solar power, eliminating single use plastic and green hydrogen.
Environment and Climate change Minister Prakash Javadekar had a bilateral meeting with Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs of France Jean Yves Le Drian in which both discussed boosting global action on climate change.
2021 is the year of Indo-French year of environment and the ministers deliberation took place ahead of the Glasgow summit in June.
Speaking at a panel organised at the Embassy of France, Javadekar stressed national circumstances, the need for affordable technolgy, and equity while tackling climate change.

India, France to work jointly on phasing out single-use plastics

New Delhi: France and India are expected to work together on a joint initiative on phasing out Single-use plastics as part of their engagement in dealing with climate change. This was one of the key outcomes of the meet between visiting French Foreign Minister Jean-Yves Le Drian and India s Environment Minister Prakash Javadekar.
Speaking at an event in Delhi, the French Foreign minister said, France and India could also work together to fight single-use plastics. Our countries have taken very strong decisions on this issue.We should invite other countries to join this momentum and –why not? – work on a moratorium on single-use plastics.
There is growing evidence that the coronavirus health crisis and our response to it are making developing countries, and vulnerable people and communities, suffer the most. Children, women, minorities, informal workers and the displaced are the most affected, according to the United Nations and the World Bank.
