Fire crews have settled controlled burns to help contain the blaze and save at least 100 homes that are at risk along Stage Road and Route 9. It was first spotted around 4 p.m. Sunday. Rob Gill, with the New Jersey Forest Fire Service, told Action News the fire has consumed roughly 900 acres of land that splits between Ocean and Burlington counties. The fire is zero percent contained, said Gill.

Patrolman Sage Sysol, who joined the Manchester police department in January, was sworn in Tuesday as a patrolman by Mayor Kenneth T. Palmer in front of family and a limited number of police, Lt. Vincent Manco said. He graduated from Pinelands Regional High School in 2015 and earned his associate s degree from Ocean County College. He is working toward his bachelor s degree through Kean University. Sysol worked as a Special Law Enforcement Officer I in Seaside Heights and SLEO II in Little Egg Harbor Township before he was hired in Manchester.
