UW announces face masks will be required in all campus buildings again · The Badger Herald

The University of Wisconsin announced Tuesday that all students, employees and visitors to campus must wear face masks when inside campus buildings effective August 5. This includes workspaces with other students, common spaces in residence halls, campus transportation and cafeterias when not actively eating or drinking, according to a press release from UW. The changes are in response to a rise in COVID-19 cases by almost 70% due to the Delta variant, a variant of COVID-19 that was first detected in India in 2020, according to the Washington Post. The statement assures students policies and plans regarding in-person classes, return to work on campus, events and physical spacing will not yet change.

Dane County hits substantial level of community COVID transmission, per CDC

Courtesy: CDC MADISON, Wis. Just as local health officials warned a day earlier, Dane County has hit the CDC’s definition for substantial community transmission for COVID-19. In the CDC’s daily update, Dane County moved from “moderate” levels of community transmission to “substantial” on Friday. It comes a day after Rock County hit the same threshold, and Dane County and Madison officials warned numbers were trending in that direction for them as well. In its updated guidelines released earlier this week, the CDC recommended communities with substantial or high levels of community transmission go back to wearing masks in all public indoor spaces, including people who have been fully vaccinated from COVID-19.
