Matthew McDonald was recently recognized by the Pittsburgh chapter of the Public Relations Society of America (PRSA).
McDonald, an external communications associate for Duquesne Light Company, received the prestigious 2021 Rising Star Award during the virtual PRSA-Pittsburgh’s Renaissance Awards ceremony on Jan. 28. Given annually to one individual, the Rising Star Award recognizes public relations professionals who have been in the industry for fewer than five years, but have made a significant impact in their field.
McDonald earned his bachelor’s in public relations from Westminster in 2019.
The PRSA-Pittsburgh event, emceed by KDKA-TV sports anchor Josh Taylor, honored local organizations, agencies, businesses and communicators in Pittsburgh for their innovative work across all aspects of public relations and marketing communications.
As the 2021 Bateman Case Study Competition comes to a close, a team of WSU students reflects on their campaign that raised awareness about incivility in public discourse and promoted individuals to “be the one” to practice civility.
The Bateman competition is hosted by the Public Relations Students Society of America, which is a professional organization for students studying public relations. University students competing in the Bateman competition are required to create and implement a public relations campaign for the same client over the course of a month.
This year, teams focused their campaigns on promoting civility in public discourse for the Public Relations Society of America, which is a public relations professional organization and this year’s client. The campaigns began on Feb. 8 and end today.
