Starting today, children can visit the Public Library of Steubenville and Jefferson County to enter their name for a drawing to win a fairy tale treasury book. One name will be selected at each library branch to win a copy of the book. “Visit the library to enjoy taking home and reading a fairy tale or borrow one digitally by accessing Tumblebooks on the library’s website,” Teasdale noted. “Tumblebooks provides animated, talking picture books to teach kids the joy of reading.”

Mingo Knights announce plans for fish frys, detail changes MINGO JUNCTION The Mingo Junction Knights of Columbus Monsignor Joseph F. Dooley Council 4361 will sponsor fish frys from noon to 7 p.m. on Fridays during Lent, beginning Feb. 12 and ending March 26, at the council hall. But there are changes to it because of pandemic precautions. There will be no dine-in or lobby sales, and the weekly events will be drive-through only in front of the building. Patrons are to call in their orders to the hall phone at (740) 535-8037 or the extra line at (740) 314-2924, according to Shawn Zarych, grand knight. There will be time slots for patrons to select a time to pick up their order.

History in the Hills: Relevant to rolling past | News, Sports, Jobs

Director of operations at Historic Fort Steuben and the Steubenville Visitors Center. A recent donation to Historic Fort Steuben came rolling through the doors of the Visitor Center last month in the form of a four-passenger surrey. This great vehicle, fully restored, dates to 1909 and features plush seats and a top with fringe going all the way around. This holiday season it was fun to see children and parents alike climb up and pretend they were rolling through town in grand style. Why not allow folks to experience this piece of the past? After I got the song from the musical “Oklahoma!” out of my head, I began to ponder about the things of the past. Specifically, things and industries connected with carriages that were commonplace to our city predecessors but are little known to us today.
