Developers have their sights set on the Airlie Beach foreshore as the “ideal” location for the Whitsundays’ newest luxury resort.
A vacant 1.01ha site at 125 Shingley Drive is the proposed location for a new 14 storey resort, comprising 175 rooms, a 480sq m function centre, multiple pool areas, and spa facilities.
Planning documents before the Whitsunday Regional Council and released for public notification this week reveal a number of premium hotel operators have been identified as potential managers, including Hilton, Accor, and Marriott International.
Proponents One Whitsunday Development Pty Ltd say they can build the $80m complex within two years, and have it up and running by 2024, generating 125 jobs and $12m annual economic benefit to the region once operational, in addition to the 166 jobs and $56 million economic benefit generated during construction.

Karen Hatcher has dropped out of the race for Peterborough Select Board, citing a previously undiscovered passage in the Peterborough town employee handbook that precluded her from serving on the board and as Peterborough’s Community and Economic Development Coordinator.
“It came to my attention a few minutes ago that there is an explicit line in the Town of Peterborough employee handbook that prevents a town employee from being a Select Board Member,” Hatcher wrote in a statement posted on social media Sunday afternoon. “I was unaware of this when I filed to run for office.”

ARLINGTON, MA Arlington is installing parklets in its commercial districts during the final week of April. Parklets are parking spaces and small roadways that have been converted into safe areas to eat outdoors, walk and travel by bicycle.
The town is continuing its parklet program this summer to provide public space for customers to access commercial centers during the pandemic. Last year, parklets played an integral role in Arlington s ongoing pandemic response and served as a critical support for local restaurants and businesses.
Outdoor seating parklets will be installed in Broadway Plaza and on Medford Street in Arlington Center. Park Terrace will be closed to vehicle traffic and has been temporarily converted into an outdoor seating area and pedestrian plaza. th to conduct finalist interviews for the position of Jackson County Administrator. There are 5 finalists for the position. As of 4/27, Janice Fransen will be the Interim Coordinator until the new Administrator is able to assume that position.Â
