The seizure of 2.4-billion-baht worth of methamphetamine in shipments from Thailand to Australia has been linked to Chinese-Australian drug kingpin Lee Chung Chak, the Narcotics Suppression Bureau (NSB) revealed, while a joint investigation between Thai and Australian police continues.
NSB chief Montri Yimyaem said national police chief Pol Gen Suwat Jangyodsuk ordered an urgent investigation into the case which is believed to involve the alleged international narcotics trafficking network of Mr Lee, from Hong Kong.
On May 4, Australian police found 316 kilogrammes of methamphetamine hidden inside barbecue grills and water heaters from Thailand.
Police arrested more than 193,000 drug suspects and seized more than 300 million speed pills, 19,875 kilogrammes of crystal methamphetamine and 2,747kg of heroin, and other drugs, over the past six months.

BANGKOK (Reuters) - Six pedigree cats valued at thousands of dollars were confiscated in a Thai drug network raid on suspicion they were being used to launder money, police said on Tuesday, as animal rights activists protested a plan to auction them off.
The cats, including five of the Scottish Fold breed and one Bengal, were confiscated on Monday following a raid at a house in Thailand’s Rayong province that belonged to a woman suspected of involvement in drug trafficking.
The woman was identified as one of three in a network that authorities had sought to arrest since January, police said, adding that she had fled before they arrived.

National police chief Pol Gen Suwat Jangyodsuk has ordered a probe into opposition claims during last week s censure debate that a police colonel and a police lieutenant general were involved in the smuggling attempt of 1.5 tonnes of crystal methamphetamine in Tak that was foiled on Oct 18, 2019, a source said yesterday.
Pol Gen Suwat assigned deputy national police chief Pol Gen Manu Mekmok in his capacity as chief of the National Command Centre for Combating Drugs (NCCD) and Pol Lt Gen Montri Yimyaem, chief of the Narcotics Suppression Bureau (NSB), to jointly lead the probe, the source said.

Thailand’s counter-narcotics police chief on Tuesday confirmed the arrest in Thai territory of a suspected senior leader with a triad that, according to law enforcement sources, dominates a multi-billion-dollar illicit drugs trade in the Asia-Pacific region.
The suspect, Hong Kong s Lee Chung Chak, was arrested in October but is trying to block his extradition to Australia through an appeal in the courts, Lt. Gen. Montri Yimyaem, commander of the Thai police’s Narcotics Suppression Bureau, told BenarNews.
“The AFP sought our cooperation to extradite him to Australia based on an extradition treaty. We arrested him according to a Thai court order,” Montri said, referring to the Australian Federal Police.
