The specter of suicide bombing that is synonymous with insurgency in the northern part of the country seemed to have made a landfall in the southern part of the country with what appeared to be an attempted suicide bombing in Ebonyi State Tuesday.
This first experience in southern nigeria happened when the vest laced with dynamite the suspected suicide bomber wore exploded.
The incident, which occurred at Afikpo town in Afikpo North Local Government Area, came on a day police stations were again attacked in Enugu and Imo states.

The Imo State Police Command has said that five members of IPOB/ESN who masterminded the murder of Sgt. Joseph Nwaka and other security operatives in the state had been arrested by the officers of the Command.
The Command added that the feat was achieved by the crime prevention and control strategies adopted by the Command under the leadership of CP Abutu Yaro, to rid Imo state of activities of the proscribed IPOB/ESN and other criminal elements.
The Commissioner of Police, Yaro, disclosed this through a statement issued in Owerri by the Police Command Public Relations Officer, Orlando Ikeokwu, on the arrest of one Onyekachi Mmadufor, a native of Umuduruekwe in Isu LGA of the state.

Not less than 19 suspected agents of bandits have been arrested by men of the local security outfits in Munya and Shiroro Local Government Areas of Niger State.
Five of the agents, made up of two brothers and three Fulani herdsmen, were apprehended at Chiri village in Shiroro LGA.
The remaining 14 informants were arrested at Fuka in Munya LGA according to a report from the area.
They were said to have been assisting the bandits with information about the movements of security operatives in the state as well as areas to attack by bandits.
It was gathered that the suspects have been handed over to the Police in Minna, the state capital, for investigation.
