Gen. Guillermo Lorenzo T. Eleazar, chief of the Philippine National Police (PNP), reminded on Wednesday, March 12, all police commanders to exercise effective supervision in their area of responsibility as part of the government measures to contain the spread of the coronavirus disease (COVID-19).
Eleazar issued the reminder after the commander of the Police Community Precinct 9 in Caloocan City was sacked from his post for failure to prevent the mass gathering of hundreds of people who went to swimming activities at the Gubat sa Ciudad last week.
The Gubat sa Ciudad resort in Brgy. 171, Bagumbong, Caloocan City, which falls within the Caloocan City PCP 9 jurisdiction, has been shut down by the city government after opening its swimming pool to hundreds of people, including small children, amid the modified enhanced community quarantine in effect in Metro Manila and three nearby provinces.

The stern warning given by Philippine National Police (PNP) Gen. Guillermo Lorenzo T. Eleazar to police commanders to observe cleanliness during his assumption speech last week have forced some of them to start repainting and cleaning their precincts, stations and offices.
“I have heard from other officers that some of our personnel have started cleaning and painting their offices and stations… I will really conduct surprise inspections just what I did when I was in the NCRPO (National Capital Region Police Office),” said Eleazar.
Eleazar is known to be strict in imposing discipline among policemen, which resulted in a general positive response among the public when his appointment as the Chief PNP was announced last week. In his speech, he warned police police commanders to observe cleanliness as part of his Intensified Cleanliness Policy.

Despite an existing no arrest order by the Philippine National Police (PNP), police arrested a radio reporter on Friday, April 16, according to a statement of the National Union of Journalists of the Philippines (NUJP) on April 19.
Lorenz Tanjoco, a radio reporter of Radyo Pilipinas under PTV 4, was arrested by police from the Police Community Precinct station 10 under the Manila Police District (MPD) after he failed to wear his mask properly while riding his motorcycle in Pandacan, Manila on April 16.
Upon his apprehension, Tanjoco explained to police officers that his face mask was being blown away by the wind so he decided to remove it for a while. The officers did not accept his explanation and a commotion started afterwards.
