PESHAWAR: Inspector General of Police Dr Sanaullah Abbasi said on Thursday that focus on improvement of investigation led to two per cent decrease in acquittal rate in Mardan and Charsadda districts.
A statement issued here said that Dr Abbasi told a delegation of British High Commission’s Justice System Support Programme (JSSP) that project focus on improvement in investigation led to two per cent reductions in acquittal rates since 2018 in both the districts, where it was piloted.
He said that interventions initiated in the pilot districts were extended to the entire province.
JSSP is funded by the British government and provides technical support to Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government and police. It is focused on bringing improvement in quality of investigation in serious crimes, especially sexual violence against women and children, and to ultimately improve users’ experience of criminal justice system.
PESHAWAR: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has ordered closure of schools in eight more districts after spike in the level of Covid-19 incidence.
The decision was made in a meeting of Provincial Task Force on Covid-19 here on Tuesday with Chief Minister Mahmood Khan in the chair, said a statement.
The meeting approved the recommendations of health department to shut down schools in Charsadda, Nowshera, Mardan, Swabi, Kohat, Malakand, Swat and Dir Lower due to rise in the number of Covid-19 cases. It also approved plan to close educational institutors in other areas recording five per cent Covid-19 positivity.
The schools in Peshawar were already closed down by National Command and Operation Centre.
IGP chairs seminar on DRCs in Mardan

MARDAN: Inspector General of Police Dr Sanaullah Abbasi chaired a seminar of dispute resolution councils of Mardan region at the Town Hall on Thursday.
The event was attended by office-bearers of DRCs from all over Mardan region, regional police officer Mardan and the district police officers of Mardan, Charsadda, Nowshera and Swabi.
Speaking at the
event, the IGP said that the DRCs are in accordance with the Islamic teachings and social values and efforts were underway to strengthen them further solving people’s problems at the doorstep.
He said that the DRCs have solved 29,000 cases in the Mardan region, comprising the districts of Mardan, Charsadda, Nowshera and Swabi.

Five police officers were booked in an FIR for brutally and publicly beating up three women allegedly arrested for robbery in Swat on Wednesday.
The women were slapped and kicked in broad daylight while being made to sit in a police van by officers of the Saidu Sharif Police Station, including its SHO, as well as an ASHO of the Kokarai Police Station.
