Puts to end hopes of the President to reverse the election result
The storming of the US Capitol by supporters of President Donald Trump has prompted calls for his removal from office before President-elect Joe Biden is sworn in on January 20.
Trump has taken a more conciliatory tone – promising a smooth transfer of power and calling for ‘healing and reconciliation’.
The chaotic scenes unfolded after Trump addressed thousands of protesters and repeated unfounded claims that the election was stolen from him. Four people died and 64 were arrested as protesters forced their way into the building.

US Capitol riot: Critics see police double standards at play
Police treated the rioters at the US Capitol very differently from Black Lives Matter protesters last summer. Many critics believe they were more lenient on Wednesday because the crowd was mostly white.

The rioters in Washington, DC, did not succeed in their endeavor to overthrow the election results. In the early morning hours on Thursday, US House representatives and senators certified Joe Biden s victory and formally made way for him and Kamala Harris to become the next president and vice president of the United States. But it s what came before that will go down as one of the darkest days in US history.
