KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 12: Yang di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri'ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah today proclaimed an emergency that will be enforced.
PETALING JAYA: The King has proclaimed a state of emergency nationwide from Tuesday (Jan 12) until Aug 1 as a proactive measure to contain the Covid-19 pandemic.
Yang di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah agreed to the decision after a meeting with Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin on Monday (Jan 11). Al-Sultan Abdullah is of the opinion that the transmission of Covid-19 is at a critical stage and there is a need for a declaration of the Proclamation of a State of Emergency under Article 150 of the Federal Constitution, said Comptroller of the Royal Household of Istana Negara Datuk Ahmad Fadil Shamsuddin.

KUALA LUMPUR (Jan 12): The proclamation of state of emergency by the King earlier this morning does not entail a military coup and the civilian government will continue to function, according to Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin.
In a nationally televised address this morning, Muhyiddin assured that there will be no curfew imposed under the emergency. He said the state of emergency is declared in order to empower the King to promulgate ordinances that may facilitate government affairs and overcome any regulations that make it difficult to deliver fast, efficient and effective public health services during the Covid-19 pandemic.
PETALING JAYA: A group of PhD scholars under Pertubuhan Intelektual Negara (Pintar) have declared their support for the King s proclamation of emergency as a proactive measure to prevent the spread of Covid-19.
Pintar president Prof Dr Mohd Roslan Mohd Nor said 222 PhD scholars were in full support of Yang di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah s wisdom in giving his consent to the Cabinet s proposal to declare a Emergency. We highly commend the decision of the Yang di-Pertuan Agong to agree to the government s decision to form an independent committee comprising government and opposition MPs, health experts and other related experts, as well as giving the independent committee the discretion to recommend to the King if the Emergency declaration can be concluded much earlier than the period ending on Aug 1, he said in a statement on Tuesday (Jan 12).
