Trial date set in slashing case | News, Sports, Jobs

Staff Writer LISBON A May 24 jury trial was scheduled in Common Pleas Court for a New York man facing an attempted murder charge after slicing another man with a razor blade late last year. Naquan P. McCorkle, 35, Lynbrook, N.Y., a suburb of New York city, is facing both a second-degree felonious assault charge and a first-degree felony attempted murder charge for his alleged attack on Brian Custer while the two men were staying at the former Trails End motel on state Route 45 on Nov. 30, 2020. At the time of the stabbing, investigators from the sheriff’s office reported McCorkle used the razor blade to slice Custer in the head and around his shoulder down his back. Custer, of Wellsville, was flown to a local hospital for treatment, while McCorkle was treated for a cut to his finger.

SALEM A woman asked police at 10:10 a.m. Friday how to obtain a protection order and reported possible telephone harassment, saying her ex-husband has been contacting her and she wanted him to stop. Officers made contact with him and told him if he continues, he’ll face criminal charges. A barking dog was reported at 9:42 a.m. Friday in the 100 block of South Union Avenue. Officers could hear the dog and left a note for the owner, who wasn’t home. Police were called at 5:15 a.m. Friday to the 800 block of East Sixth Street where a woman reported possibly hearing someone in her basement. Officers checked the basement and the interior of the residence, but no one was found.

Feb 12, 2021 Barbara J. Woodard, 50, East Liverpool, was cited for right of way when turning left after she side-swiped a St. Clair Township police vehicle driven by Jacob Haytel. Haytel was making a right turn onto state Route 170 in St. Clair Township at 5:14 a.m. Feb. 2 when Woodard turned left from St. Clair Avenue and entered the right lane, side-swiping his vehicle. Whitney A. Hillock was cited with assured clear distance after she struck the rear of a vehicle driven by Jack R. Moore, 82, Salineville, on state Route 45 in Center Township at noon Feb. 3. Moore and his passenger, Sharronk K. Moore, 79, Salineville, were both transported to a local hospital with minor injuries.

County grand jury issues 42 indictments | News, Sports, Jobs

Feb 12, 2021 LISBON A Salem man accused of breaking into a Vine Avenue home to commit a burglary crime while the woman was at home is among 42 indictments issued by the Columbiana County Common Pleas Court Grand Jury this week. The grand jury heard 45 cases, issuing 32 secret indictments, while they determined not to indict in three cases presented. The following 15 indictments are open indictments: Austin A. Angeli, 33, Jefferson Avenue, Salem, is charged with aggravated burglary, a first-degree felony, as well as misdemeanor charges of assault, aggravated menacing and unlawful restraint. On Sept. 28, Angeli allegedly restrained and caused physical harm to Candy Armstrong, while trespassing in a building where she was at in order to commit theft crimes.

Feb 11, 2021 LISBON In Common Pleas Court, Robert L. Gailey, 46, Hookstown, Pa., one of the Operation Big Oak defendants, stipulated to violating the terms of his intervention in lieu of conviction treatment plan, which was then dishonorably terminated. He was credited with 29 days served in jail and placed on three years of community control. Gailey had initially pleaded guilty to trafficking in heroin, trafficking in cocaine and three counts of aggravated trafficking in drugs for fentanyl and crack cocaine he was selling sometimes from his home in February, March, May and June of 2017. Zachary R. Fraser, 22, Scotts Mill Road, Rogers, stipulated to violating the terms of his community control for a trafficking in drugs charge and a possession of drugs charge. His community control was dishonorably terminated and he was sentenced to 270 days in jail with credit for 199 days served.
